Taster Event for New Certificate in Project Management

The School of Business in WIT are delighted to host a ‘Taster’ event on Tuesday, 21st November from 9am to 1pm to showcase our new programme, the Certificate in Project Management. The event is kindly supported by Waterford Chamber Skillnet.

This is a 15 week programme, at level 8, specifically designed for those who are keen to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform effectively at an executive level in organisations. It aims to equip candidates with modern tools for effective decision-making and to provide them with the ability to evaluate their decisions in the context of real-world case examples.

The event will act as a combination of an information session about the programme and a ‘taster’ for what participants will experience from January 2018. At present, we offer the Certificate in Management Development and the Higher Diploma in Business in Management using a new blended learning mode of delivery. This means that a sizable proportion of participants’ contact time is delivered online. For participants and their employers, this reduces travel time and accommodates the busy and sometimes hard to plan lives that so many people have.

High quality recorded lectures are provided online on scheduled dates, which participants can access and watch (and re-watch) at their pace. Online live sessions with the class are also facilitated, where participants can ask questions and engage in discussion on the material that they have watched and read. There is the facility to utilise other online methods as appropriate, including discussion forums, readings, quizzes and videos. Participants are formally assessed in each module, with assessments again submitted online.

Face to face lectures and workshops do take place, but to facilitate participants and their employers, we have timetabled these on one Friday and one Saturday together in each month in a ‘block release’ fashion. This effectively means that participants only need to be in physical attendance for up to eight days per semester that are scheduled in advance to allow for planning, which is much less than traditional programmes but – crucially – the content and the learning is not compromised in any way.

Who should attend?

The taster event is for both those who are interested in becoming programme participants and organisations/employers who might like to consider sending staff on the programme. Those in attendance at the event will get to experience what programme participants will experience in January by viewing pre-recorded online lecture content, engaging in an online discussion around this content and taking part in a short group case study in a physical class environment. We anticipate that demand for this event will be considerable and we are asking that anyone interested in attending books their place in advance.

What Our Members Say

“We found the Toys 4.0 Engineers exhibition to be an excellent platform for us to showcase our business. The attendees were exactly the people we hoped to meet and we are delighted to have made new contacts as a result. We also unexpectedly had some success in making supplier connections with other exhibitors. The venue was ideal with adequate sound and space and the presentations were informative. Overall the event was professionally run and we had an excellent experience. We will definitely be exhibiting again next year. I cannot recommend the event highly enough.”
