The Board of the Solas Cancer Support Centre was delighted to host a Waterford Chamber Business After Hours on Thursday, 5th April and to welcome the local business community to the Centre.
At the event a new initiative was officially launched by Board Member Seamus Kilgannon. The new Health and Wellbeing for Life Programme offers a partnership to local companies in providing a yearlong managed schedule of events. This programme includes four strands around self-care, exercise, cancer awareness and health awareness.
On the night Seamus explained the background to this new Programme ‘With over 25 years working in industry and having founded SCHIVO Group in 2007, I fully appreciate the importance of being able to work with a great team and we are fortunate to have been able to find and build that team in Schivo Medical. My extensive experience in industry has demonstrated the value and importance of helping people balance their work and personal lives to be fulfilled. In the development of the Solas Health and Wellbeing for Life Programme I was adamant that we offer organisations an opportunity to facilitate improved employee wellbeing by including resources and tools that educate, encourage and empower individuals to proactively manage their own health and wellbeing.’
Tracy McDaid, Manager of the Centre, will work closely with partnering companies and a range of expert facilitators to ensure that this comprehensive yearly programme is delivered to best suit an individual company’s needs. The Solas Cancer Support Centre offers free cancer support to those affected by cancer, their families and carers in the South East. These services are available in their centre at Williamstown in Waterford City and in their West Waterford service based in the Alternative Health Clinic in Dungarvan. The services are completely funded by the public and costs in excess of €500,000 per year to operate. The aim of this new programme is to secure funding from new corporate partners to sustain these vital services and plan for future developments.
