Reminder of changes to FIRST AID Training since May 31st 2018

As of the 1st of June this year, the Health & Safety Authority (HSA) are now only accepting First Aid Response (FAR) Training as the recognised qualification for newly qualified first aiders in the workplace.

All first aiders who previously held Occupational First Aid Certification up to the 31st of May 2018 will now attend a 2 day First Aid Response course as refresher training before their certificate is due to expire. Currently the previous 90 days grace NO LONGER applies so once the date on your certificate is up, your certificate is out of date. Therefore it is important to have your certificates up to date in lieu of the liability of having uncertified first aid responders in-situ.

Make sure to check the date on your current certificate and if you need to get your First Aid training refreshed LCE have the following courses:

First Aid Refresher Training - €195.00pp

GIY FOOD MATTERSGIY turns 10 this month and to celebrate we have a stomper of a line-up for Food Matters 2018 at GROW HQ, the home of the GIY movement.

A very special 7 course tasting menu from GROW HQ Head Chef JB Dubois, workshops in apple/cider making and food styling; a Cottage Market collective, kids’ fun with RTE Junior’s Muireann Ní Chíobháin, and a behind-the-scenes event with GROW COOK EAT’s Mick Kelly and Karen O’Donohoe. The festival, called GIY Food Matters, which is part of Waterford’s Harvest weekend features a programme of talks, garden walks, demos workshops as well as a very special ticketed evening event.

The weekend’s celebrations kick off on Friday 7th September with the launch of a brand-new Chef Series at HQ called homegrown.  Some of Ireland’s leading chefs will take over the HQ kitchen and garden in the months ahead including Darina Allen, Enda McEvoy from Loam in Galway, GastroGays and Katie Jane Sanderson from The Fumbally.  Who better to launch homegrown than our very own JB Dubois, nominated for the Rising Star Award in the 2018 Food & Wine Magazine Awards and who led the charge for GROW HQ to be included in the Top 100 Restaurants in The Irish Times and The Sunday Times.  JB will cook a seasonal 7 course tasting menu for this special occasion featuring a whole host of fresh ingredients grown right here in GROW HQ- where the veg takes centre stage. Tickets are priced at €45 and with just 50 tickets available this is sure to be an unforgettable evening.

On Saturday 8th September from 10am to 1pm, apples take centre stage for Apples 101. A 3-hour APPLEtiser celebrating the humble apple during the height of apple harvest season in Ireland. Learn from Waterford’s own Legacy Irish Cider on how cider is made with a live in-house demo. GROW HQ’s Head Chef JB Dubois will demonstrate how to get the best out of Irish apples in your cooking – from apple tarts to apple jelly and lots more in between! Richard Mee, Head Grower at GROW HQ, will also discuss how to plant and care for your own orchard, even if you only have a small amount of space. The different varieties of Irish Heritage Apples are so important to our island and we will be discussing the ones native to the South East region. Tickets are €30 each - spaces limited

From 2-4pm on Saturday we will be talking Food Styling and Photography Skills with top experts including Sinead Delahunty from Delalicious, Frances Walsh from The Honest Project, Caroline Hennessy from Bibliocook and Sarah-Kim Watchorn who previously worked with Donal Skehan, Roz Purcell, Chef Adrian and many more. You will learn how to make your photos look like they are ‘gram worthy and Blog ready. Hear about major fails and how they can be restored with the right props and apps. There will also be a Q&A session where our panel of experts will be able to help steer you in the right direction. Tickets are €20 each.

All our events on Sunday September 9th are free for all the family, but booking is essential. From 11am to 4pm the Cottage Market Collective brings a variety of food producers, artists, bakers, crafters and more from GIY Cottage Markets across Ireland to GROW HQ for the first time. The GIY Cottage Markets help urban and rural communities in Ireland develop from the inside out as each location creates a market that reflects the diverse skills and talents of the people that live there.

At 2pm, join RTÉ Junior’s Dig-In Diner Star Muireann Ní Chíobháin for an action-packed fun filled children’s activity area at GROW HQ. Let your little one (age 5 years old and over) dance, learn and laugh their socks off.

At 3pm, join the stars of RTE’s GROW COOK EAT Karen O'Donohoe and Mick Kelly as they take you behind the scenes of the show, which was filmed on site in GROW HQ.  Visit the garden that was the set of this year’s show and find out how to grow the veg that appeared in series 1.  Hear the gossip, craic and major fails that did not make it on screen.

Commenting on the Food Matters programme, GIY Founder Michael Kelly spoke of the team’s pride in reaching the 10-year milestone: “It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come in ten years from our first GIY group here in Waterford. We’re delighted to host this very special event to gather together our loyal customers and GIYers from all over Ireland to celebrate with us.”

What Our Members Say

“Tom Murphy Car Sales Ltd has been a member of Waterford Chamber of Commerce for over 25 years. It’s a membership that serves us well as we find it gives us a platform to interact with similar businesses and puts us in front of a wide audience. Having staged a number of very successful Chamber events, both at our dealership on the Cork Road and at venues chosen by the Chamber, it really puts into perspective the value of networking and meeting with potential customers face to face. We intend to continue the partnership between Waterford Chamber of Commerce and Tom Murphy Car Sales into the future, as the results speak for themselves and we see the value in being a member of Waterford Chamber.”
