Bus Eireann Leap Card Rose of TraleeWaterford Rose of Tralee and winner of the 2018 International Rose of Tralee, Kirsten Mate Maher, today launched a €1 Leap Card promotional single fare on Bus Éireann’s Waterford city services and Route 360 (Waterford-Tramore), commencing Sunday, 27 January until Saturday, 2 March 2019.

All cash fares will remain the same. Bus Éireann, in conjunction with the National Transport Authority (NTA), recently introduced an enhanced Waterford city network which has, so far, resulted in an increase of customer numbers by over 35%.

Further improvements are also planned in Waterford for the first half of 2019, including:

  • The rollout of bus stop infrastructure (stop specific timetable information at all stops) 
  • Later night services to Tramore - Improved bus stop locations

There are 17 new state-of-the-art city buses on the city network, which are fully accessible and feature Transport for Ireland livery. The single-deck buses operate the five W1-W5 city routes and feature a bright, new interior design. The new buses also have comfortable seating, a dedicated wheelchair space, a separate designated child buggy space, priority seats, USB sockets, complimentary Wi-Fi, CCTV security cameras throughout, as well as journey information screens.

From 27 January, customers can travel on any of the five city routes and the Route 360 between Tramore and Waterford for only €1 on a single fare when using a Leap Card. Customers are guaranteed savings of up to 30% on cash fares by using their Leap Card throughout the year. For timetable information and service improvements see

In my current role I’m on the move a lot and I travel with Bus Éireann a lot. Using public transport saves me time and energy, and it’s also better for the environment! It’s great to see that so many people are availing of the new services and I recommend anyone who hasn’t to check them out!.”

Anne Graham, Chief Executive Officer, National Transport Authority (NTA) said: “The dramatic increase in passenger numbers that we have already seen in Waterford is an indication that when customers are presented with a service that is reliable and good value, they will shift to public transport.
“This is good news for the city and county of Waterford and for the environment, particularly at a time when the issue of climate change is in sharp focus.”

Speaking about the improved network and fleet changes, Michael Faherty, Bus Éireann Services Manager in Waterford said: “This major network enhancement in Waterford city has been a great success and we have seen a significant increase in passenger usage. 
The promotional fare of €1 will be of great benefit to the people of Waterford city.”

Waterford Music Far Flung TrioStarting 2019 with a bang, Waterford Music will present the Far Flung Trio at the Large Room, City Hall, Waterford on Thursday, 31st January with an irresistible musical programme that is virtuosic, eccentric and charming in their signature style.

A family concert at 2 pm showcasing Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf (approx 60 mins) will be followed by an evening concert at 7:30pm featuring the seductive melodies of Bizet’s Carmen and Rossini’s mischievous Barber of Seville overture, jazzy tunes by Gershwin, an original work by Irish jazz giant Ronan Guilfoyle, and lots more, all tailored by the Trio and delivered with panache and delight.

Family Concert: Adult tickets €5 / Under 18s Free of Charge (Must be accompanied by an adult) on the door.

Evening Concert: Tickets €18 (€15 concession / €5 students) on the door.

Leader of the Irish Chamber Orchestra violinist Katherine Hunka and the extraordinary accordion player Dermot Dunne have been playing together since 2007. They have toured Ireland and China playing everything from Baroque to Piazzolla. They are delighted to be joined by Ireland’s most sought after and versatile double bassist Malachy Robinson for performances packed with musical gems.

GIY GROW2CEORegistration is now open for GROW2CEO – a uniquecompetition to find Irelands’ next young food entrepreneurs. GROW2CEO is a collaboration between Cully & Sully and GIY.  

The campaign was launched today (Monday, 14th of January) by food entrepreneur Cullen Allen from Cully & Sully and Mick Kelly founder of GIY. 

GROW2CEO will give students and teenagers across Irish Secondary Schools everything they need to startgrowing some food, get a better understanding of what goes into the food they eat, and how they can make healthier choices in their own lives. The campaign involves four exciting challenges, which will take students on a fascinating journey where they will create their own food business and soup recipe while learning all about where food comes from. 

Free growing kits will be delivered to all of the teacherswho register for the 2019 competition. The kits will include everything the students need to grow spinach including the seeds, pots, soil and plenty of expert growing recipe development tips from GIY and Cully & Sully.

In the final phase, they will be asked come up with a soup recipe and business plan. Three classes will then be selected for the competition finale. These finalists will be invited to a ‘Dragon's Den' style pitch scenario at the home of GIY, GROW HQ in Waterford on Wednesday the 15th May, where the winning class will be selected and crowned ‘GROW 2 CEO' Champions 2019.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming competition deadline, Michael Kelly of GIY said, "Last year’s competition was a phenomenal success, it is really interesting to see the keen level of interest and the vast knowledge that teenagers have about their food – they are far more interested than their peers of ten or twenty years ago. We hope that the Grow 2 CEO campaign will encourage more students and schools to make growing and food nutrition a bigger part of the curriculum and therefore encourage more students to consider food entrepreneurship as a possible career choice in the future.”

Cullen Allen of Cully & Sully said, We are excited to launch GROW2CEO 2019 with our friends at GIY,  We are especially excited to see what Irish secondary schools come up with this year. The 2018 campaign was hugely inspirational with some amazing presentations and product concepts developed. At Cully & Sully we are passionate about using excellent quality ingredients in the products we produce and we hope that the students will appreciate the importance of using fresh produce and of course find the joy in growing their own ingredients. 

The growing kits will be delivered to all schools that register to take part and the competition and challenge will commence on 4th March. The ‘GROW 2 CEO' grand final will take place on the 15th May 2019, where a panel of judges will taste test the student’s products and review the business model and plans of the shortlisted finalists. The winning students will be awarded a prize pot of €5,000 which includes a €3,000 food garden for their school, champion hoodies for the winning class and the winning teacher will receive an overnight trip to Ballymaloe.
