Piece of steel from World Trade Center to go on display in Waterford

WTC 911 Sean Egan

On 16th September 2018 the Mayor of Waterford will unveil a piece of steel from the World Trade Center which will go on permanent public display in the Bishops Palace gardens.

Former Waterford Crystal master engraver Sean Egan created an iconic glass sculpture depicting five firefighters carrying Fr Mychal Judge, FDNY’s Chaplain, which he donated to the New York Fire Department at Engine 1, Ladder 24 at a ceremony in March 2007. Following this, members of the FDNY arranged for the piece of steel from WTC to be given to Waterford. This is the largest piece of steel from the WTC given to any country, city or person outside of the United States of America.

Sean Egan would now like to bring four members of FDNY to Waterford for the unveiling ceremony. Three of the firefighters were on duty during 9/11 and helped arrange for the piece of steel to be given to Waterford.

Funding is required to make their journey to Waterford possible. If you or your business would like to support, please contact Sean Egan at 087 1239523 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
